Poem: “I Am Here”

I’ve been through too much.

I’m too far on my journey to shrivel up now.

I’m realizing that I too have a crown.

That my light doesn’t

have to dim for the

sake of others.

I’m too far,

too set on my purpose

to curtsy at the feet of

court jesters

entertaining

dust particles.

I am here.

I’ve got meaning too.

My eyes got stories that make

all the quilts, created by Me-maws,

look like Kleenex tissues.

I’ve faced my ugliness

and told it it’s accepted.

Told my wounds they

are rejected.

They stand at the gate of

my quintessence and weep

at the sound of

my sacred affirmations

my prophetic sentences,

my original foundation

my deprecation of pessimism.

of what self-love looks like.

I am here.

I’ve got meaning too.

Creative, authentic and uncomplicated.

The honey voice with the base in

the middle.

I am here.

I’ve got meaning too.

I’ve come too far now

to ignore what my heart beats for.

To compromise what makes

me tremble down to my very soul.

In this empowering poem, the speaking finds meaning in their life and feel confident and strong in who they are and the space they take up in this world.
