On Friday, I was hanging out with friends and, of course, the conversation turned to – “What are you doing for Valentine’s Day?” As I heard what all of my friends had planned – awesome massages, surprise dates – I couldn’t be upset that I haven’t celebrated Valentine’s Day since 2009. This year, I was able to celebrate Galentine’s Day – with a bad ass event thrown by me and Fempotential.
Sunday afternoon, I arrived at Checkered Past Winery with my friend Megan in our amazing Fempotential shirts and we began to set up the scene. Fifteen minutes later, our first sponsors started appearing – Jannet Medellin Photography, Eyes by Erica, Angelique Swann, Massage Therapist Cheri O’Brien, Brenda Austin of Now and Zen Bodyworks. I could barely contain my excitement as we put the finishing touches on everything – this was happening!
Soon after, my awesome mom appeared with a gaggle of friends from a two-hour drive from Wichita Falls, Texas – a girl has to have her mom at her Galentine’s Event! And then soon after that – the gals started to arrive. One by one they approached our check-in table carrying bags of donated items for Genesis Women’s Shelter. I was so happy and overwhelmed by the kindness of these women – giving back to women who had experienced domestic violence in the Dallas, Texas, area – a sort of pay-it-forward gesture for us providing this free event.
The ladies entered solo or in groups and I’m sure they were as blown away by the cool, chic design and layout of Checkered Past Winery as I was the first time I checked out this place. After grabbing a happy hour drink from the bar, they headed further in and started engaging with our sponsors. Free makeup, free massages, and a free photo shoot – all to celebrate them!
There was even a cool table with Fempotential branded postcards that are part of our new campaign, Fempotential’s Random Reminders – a campaign in which the women wrote inspirational messages on the postcards to themselves or other women and we send them out throughout 2017. (Follow us on Instagram, @Fempotential, to keep up with this campaign!).
As I moved around throughout the event, I was overwhelmed by the sheer girl power and self-love of the event. There was laughter, fun photos, giant Jenga games, and wine and pizza. Did Fempotential really put this all together? Did this really happen?
As the event came to a close, I grabbed the microphone and thanked our sponsors before giving away some amazing gifts in our drawing. I was so happy to give away organic beauty products form BurdenFree Natural Beauty Products, wine tastings from Checkered Past Winery, free group training session with Lyfestyle180, a life coach session with Life Coach Abby Cameron, goodie bags from Loni Loo’s, and a free massage from Now and Zen Bodyworks.
Soon after, some ladies settled in, some left, and I was left with an immense feeling of satisfaction. For one day, Fempotential was able to reminder the women of Dallas that they need to show themselves some love whether it be near Valentine’s Day or throughout the year. And I’m going to remember that myself — tomorrow I plan on treating myself to lunch with a friend, dinner, a book-shopping trip (because I’m a nerd), and maybe a manicure. Because why not? I tots deserve some love this Love Month.
Stay tuned for more pictures and videos from the event! Coming soon!
