A Curvy Woman’s Favorite Places to Shop on a Budget

My curves have always challenged me.  I remember an argument many years ago I had with a pair of jeans.  They were supposed to fit, but they decided that day they would get stuck halfway up my luscious thighs.  After a scramble and a loud crash the lady at the store finally whispered through the crack in the door, “Sweetie….we don’t carry anything larger than a 14.”

I left, embarrassed, and I decided I was never going to wear clothes again.  I contacted HR the next day to ask about their policy on establishing a nudist colony at the office.  No go.  I needed some new clothes.  But everywhere I searched, women’s plus-sized clothes were more expensive, harder to find, and always made for Amazonian women.  Tall, full, and beautiful.

Working in a corporate environment it was important for me to find something classy and affordable.  If you find yourself in a similar situation, check out my simple introduction to using the Internet to dress with your curves, instead of fighting against them.

Find Your Body Type

Go to your cupboards, and get your apples, your pears, and your hourglasses in a row.  Pull out some recent pictures of yourself or even take some well-defined measurements.  Using these, you can easily determine what your curvy body type is.  Myself, when I am not bloated, am an hourglass.

Find your figure, then…

If you haven’t yet, make an account on Pinterest.  Pinterest is a site where people (yes, including you), can save pictures and ideas from all over the web by “pinning” them to a board.  I was lucky enough to stumble upon Pinterest’s not-so-secret guide to plus-size fashion.  Here, I have found the best deals and ideas for my “corporate curvy style” just by doing a few simple searches.  Search Pinterest for your own curvy fashion style, or check out my Pinterest boards for my favorite finds!

Best Deals Around Town

Here’s the fun part!  After all the research I had an idea of what I wanted to wear, and how I could put each piece together.  I found the best deals here:

Lane Bryant Sales Racks

Hit this plus-size fashion retailer’s sale section for some great deals.  Work slacks are on sale throughout the year for $19.99, I found the best options in store.  Online they have a few deals where you can buy one trouser, get the second for $5.

Maurices

I found this gem through a co-worker of mine.  Their plus size styles go from casual to work to a fun night out.  Check out this cute dress for only $49.00! Pair it with some cute leggings and you are ready for winter.

Simply Be

This is one of my favorite stores.  I go here for dresses mainly.  But you can find some staple pieces here like cardigans, blouses, and wide width dress shoes that are great for work.  My go-to has been this cardigan, only $14.99, and it comes in a million different colors.

At Fempotential, we believe that ALL women deserve to feel bold and beautiful with what they wear without sacrificing a lot of money. One curvy woman shares her favorite budget-friendly stores that she uses to look fashionable everyday.
